RYA Safety Boat Course

What the course covers:

  • Boat prep & handling: launch, recovery, and day‑end procedures

  • Rescue techniques: dinghy, windsurfer, kayak/canoe rescue and towing

  • Operational skills: race support, mark laying, communication protocols

  • Safety awareness: craft suitability, local factors, VHF / first‑aid readiness

Course Information:
Duration: 2 days between 09:15 and 16:30 each day
Location: Findhorn Watersports, Findhorn Bay

What you need to bring:
Packed lunch and drinks – hot drinks will be provided.
Waterproof clothing – Jacket and trousers if you have them; you will be exposed to the elements.
Footwear – Please wear sturdy shoes or boots that you don’t mind getting wet. Trainers are acceptable, but avoid open-toed shoes, flip-flops, or anything without good grip.
Warm layers – The weather can change quickly on the water, even in summer
Towel and a change of clothes – Just in case.
We provide lifejackets and all specialist equipment needed for the course.

Course format: practical on‑water sessions with some classroom/theory modules

Upon successful completion, you’ll earn an RYA Safety Boat certificate, enabling you to confidently crew safety cover for fleets of dinghies, windsurfers, canoes, or similar craft during training or racing events
