Junior RYA Stages 3 & 4 all day Dinghy Sailing Course

Course Overview
Stage 3: Focuses on building independent sailing skills, including improved boat handling, sailing in a range of directions, and rigging a boat without assistance. Sailors will begin to sail more efficiently and with greater confidence.
Stage 4: Introduces sailing as part of a crew in double-handed dinghies. The emphasis is on teamwork, helming and crewing roles, and more advanced manoeuvres such as man overboard recovery and efficient tacking and gybing.
Who is this course for?
Age: Typically 8–14 years old
Pre-requisites: RYA Stage 2 or equivalent experience
Group size: Small instructor-to-student ratios ensure high-quality, personalised coaching
What to Bring
Snacks and packed lunch – active sailing requires regular energy intake
Plenty of water – staying hydrated is essential
Footwear that can get wet – old trainers or wetsuit boots
Towel and warm clothing – for changing before and after sailing
Full change of clothes – accidents and capsizes are part of the learning experience
All essential sailing equipment and buoyancy aids will be provided. Participants are welcome to bring their own wetsuits or waterproofs if they prefer.
Outcomes and Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, sailors will receive certification for both RYA Stage 3 and Stage 4. These awards form the foundation for progression into more advanced sailing courses or participation in club and race training.
